LITERATURE
&
LANGUAGE

C L A S S .. 0 6

Good morning, afternoon or evening... Wherever you are, be welcome to our sixth and last session of this course on literature and language.

Over these meetings we have read varied and various samples, learned a few concepts, and hopefully, increased the habit of reading as a means to get closer to the language.

Today we have a revision of the main topics, in the form of a brief evaluation that you can work on, and send by email if you wish.

Evaluation

Send your answers or comments to : verbanet@hotmail.com

Work on at least two of the following questions.

Use examples, if you wish, of the literary pieces we have read.

  • Rapunzel - The Grimm Brothers
  • The Cask of Amontillado - Edgar Alan Poe
  • A Story Without an End - Mark Twain
  • Selected Poems - Emily Dickinson
  • The End of Something - Ernest Hemingway

Base your answers on YOUR impressions, rather than on theory or formal analysis. Remember what we suggested early on :

"Literature is just a collection of words.
The difference between dislike and appreciation is often
just the matter of understanding yourself, the world around you,
and art to a greater extent."

Questions :

  1. Did any work particularly move or affect you? Why?.

  2. What aspects of any of the five pieces had the greatest impact on you?

  3. What did the author seem to be saying? How did he/she say it?

  4. How did other aspects or "special effects" contribute to your response as a reader?

Evaluation
